Tony Karanfilovski is confident he can continue his race-winning pace at the front of the ENZED Touring Car Masters field at Winton Motor Raceway this weekend.
The Boss Mustang driver set Adelaide alive in early March, winning his first TCM race with a dramatic leap across the turn one chicane before taking the victory.
Karanfilovski finished third in today’s two 20-minute sessions held at Winton, behind John Bowe and Jim Richards in the dry first practice and behind Bowe and Andrew Miedecke in a wetter afternoon run.
Despite suffering damage later in the Adelaide weekend, Karanfilovski says there is no reason why he can’t continue his strong early-season form in regional Victoria.
“The car was great on wets in the afternoon and it was good when we put the dry tyres on – we didn’t have to change it at all,” he said.
“The car feels very compliant and I think we can expect to be somewhere in the top five in qualifying tomorrow. We tested last week and the pace was good enough for that kind of position.”
In a topsy-turvy kind of day, opening practice was held on a slick track whilst the second session began with rain and ended with a qualifying simulation at the end as teams switched from wet to dry tyres and times dropped dramatically.
Bowe topped both sessions however the margin covering his Mustang, Miedecke and Karanfilovski in the second was just 0.2s indicating that this will be another highly competitive weekend for the TCM series.
